Batch Rename |

Industry naming standards, or the need to better organize a drawing structure, can require you to rename classes, layers, viewports, saved views, and resources in a file. The Batch Rename command allows you to make certain changes to the names of multiple drawing elements in the file at once, such as adding a prefix to a list of class names.
Only items in the active file can be renamed; referenced items are not eligible for this operation.
To batch rename drawing elements:
Select the command.
The Batch Rename dialog box opens.
Click to show/hide the parameters.Click to show/hide the parameters.

Category |
Select the type of object to rename; enter text in the search box to filter the list by name |
Operation |
Select the kind of operation to complete: Add Prefix Add Suffix Add Incrementing Prefix Add Incrementing Suffix Find and Replace Find and Delete Truncate To Uppercase To Lowercase Title Caps For Add Incrementing Prefix/Suffix, specify a prefix/suffix, the increment, and an optional separator. Replace existing name replaces the entire existing name with the prefix/suffix, but the incrementing character must be at the end of the Start Value; that is "WallStyle_1" increments as indicated, but 1_WallStyle" does not. Find and Replace and Find and Delete operations locate the character combination in the Find field anywhere in the Existing Name. Select Match case if needed to make the operation case-sensitive. Wildcards and regular expressions are not supported in these operations. Truncate allows you to specify the maximum number of characters in the name. For item names that must be unique in the file, this may create name conflicts that must be resolved manually. To Uppercase and To Lowercase operations convert all letters in the name to that case. Title Caps capitalizes the first letter of every word in the name. |

Search box |
Enter text to filter the preview list by name. Items that have been selected with a check mark in the first column but then filtered out by the search are still selected even though they are not visible. Operations are applied to all selected items. |
Show only selected items |
Includes only selected items in the preview list, below; when this option is selected, a list item that is deselected is hidden from the list |
Preview |
Lists all items, or all selected items, in the category that meet the search filter criteria. Both the existing name and a dynamic preview of the proposed new name display; design layers and sheet layers also display the stacking order. Click in the first column to select or deselect a list item. Click a column header to change the list order. |
Selection control menu |
To select/deselect groups of items, rather than individually select items in the preview list, select one of the following: Select Shown Items selects the items displayed in the preview list; the selection status of items not currently shown is not affected. Deselect Shown Items deselects the items displayed in the preview list; the selection status of items not currently shown is not affected. Select All Items selects all items in the category, regardless of whether they are filtered in the search box or are currently displayed in the preview list. Deselect All Items deselects all items in the category, regardless of whether they are filtered in the search box or are currently displayed in the preview list. Static text displays the number of items shown and selected, out of the total number of items in the category. Because all selected items are subject to batch renaming, even if they are not currently shown, we recommend selecting Deselect All Items and then Select Shown Items, to ensure you don't inadvertently change items that are not currently shown. |
Apply Changes |
Click to apply the current changes; the Existing Name updates to confirm that changes are applied |
Select the Category of items to be renamed and the Operation, and enter the changes into the operational controls.
All items in the category are selected for the operation by default. The dynamic preview displays the New Name in green if there is no conflict with completing the operation, or in red if there is a naming conflict.
If needed, enter text into the search field to filter the preview list and/or select Show only selected items. Items that are selected but filtered out of the preview by the search remain selected for the operation, even though they are no longer listed in the preview.
Click in the first column to remove the check mark and deselect any items that should not be renamed, or change the selection status of a group of items with the selection control menu below the preview.
Click Apply Changes. You can then complete additional operations without exiting the dialog box.
Clicking Cancel to exit the dialog box undoes all operations that have been applied in that session.
